Ancent Cave Paintings.

The First Paintings were found in the Lascaux Cave, which was located in The Lascaux Wood in France, the paintings were discovered by some boys that were hunting and they came upon a hole in the ground that seemed to be the opening to a large cave so they later went back to the cave to see what was down there and they found paintings of large animals such as Deer, Bulls Oxen, Horses, and Rhinoceros. One of the paintings even showed a Bison getting killed by a spear.

There was a lot of work to be done to make their paintings look like what they look like. First of all they had to crawl into the caves with their animal fat light, which had to smell and be hard! Then they had to make the color and how they did that was they put red, brown, and yellow orches of iron but they also added the black from charcoal, they also sometimes used animal fat. To make brushes they took sticks and roughened the ends. That would be one method they also sometimes sprayed the paintings on.

They think the oldest painting was painted about 30,000 years ago and they youngest about 10,000 years ago. We do not know they were painted but I think they were painted to show what they had saw that day or what they believe. The paintings started with the Cro-Magnon which are Homo Sapiens who lived in Europe 40,000 years ago. The paintings were mainly of animals and how they were hunted.

Some Examples of the paintings are:

This painting is of a horse and it is one of many paintings that were found in the Lascaux Cave.

This painting was also found in the Lascaux Cave. The painting is of two
bulls and it also has a horses head at the top.

This Lascaux Cave painting is of a bull well a half of bull

The painters of these Lascaux Caves had many different techniques. Some of those techniques are that they would crawl on their hands and knees so they could go far into the cave to paint. To give the paintings dimension they would paint where the cave were not smooth. They would also use the techinques of gradation of value which is the slow transition between opposites, which is also known as the value between light and dark. How this is shown is through shading. The paintings were of different animals such as bulls, horses, bison, reindeer, and other wild animals. They would be outlined with charcoal and the painters would use yellows, reds, browns, and oranges. Another Technique they used was that they would use animal fat for lighting when they are crawling into the cave, and to see what they are painting on.

What do you think it would be like to be a cave artists? Well I really don't think I could be a cave artists because I would not want to crawl into a small cave that smelled really bad. But I do think it would be cool to find one or see one because it shows what the life 16,000 years ago was like.

Man kind today owes Early Man Kind

Owes

~ With out our Prehistoric ancestors we wouldnt have the tools and we wouldnt be able to walk upright.
The early species probably didnt know the modern ABC's: , because they weren't language capeable until the Neanderthals came along and even then they really didnt know much language.
For Example:

Lucy:

Lucy is an Australopithicines. She lived 3.5 million years ago. She walked upright and she had opposable thumbs. She was also a Homind.
If Lucy and her species never lived would we be able to walk upright? I don't think we would be able to because we have come from those species so if they didn't walk upright then most likely we wouldn't. I wonder if Lucy was the first creature to stand upright because she was the oldest Homind that anybody has ever found. I think she is very important in history because we have learned a lot about the time and what hominds were like back 3.5 million years ago.
Opposable Thumbs:
Homo Habilis:

Homo Habilis are also known as Handy Man becuase they were the first tool maker. They came up with unifacial tool which is a one sided tool. Their brain size is the same as a modern two year old! They appeared 2 million years ago.
With out the Homo Habilis would we have any tools to build our houses? Im guessing we wouldnt be able to have any house to live in. I think that the Homo Habilis time was very important even though their brain size was the same size as a modern two year old because they were the first tool makers which then made it easier to hunt and get food.
xample of their Brain: The first tool:

Example of two year old brain:

Homo Erectus:
The Homo Erectus did not carry around spears.

Homo Erectus was the first to migrate from Africa. They appeared 1.5 million years ago. They Domesicated Fire and they were the first to make clothing, we know this becuase of Ethnographic Analogy which is the comparing of two cultures. The homo erectus came up with the bi-facial tool which is a two sided tool, and they may even be cannibals we think this because people have found hollowed out skulls with scraped marks.
With out the Homo Erectus species who knows what we would be like today because they are the ones that made our clothing which is a very important part of us because clothing tells who you are. I think that when Homo Erectus lived it was a very important time even though it was just a small spec in time becuase they are the ones that made clothing and they domesicated fire.

Neanderthals:

Neanderthals appeared 200,00- 300,00 years ago. They used advanced tools and buried their dead. They cared for one another which is called Altruism. They were very like us meaning they were language capable.
With out the Neanderthals we wouldn't be very far in life, becuase they cared for one another and caring for one another is what can save you they also were the ones that started knowing language and with out being able to talk where would we be!? I wonder how they go from being cannibals (Homo Erectus) to caring for one another. I also wonder if they might even be cannibals we jsut don't know it. I think they are very important becuase they came up with and used advanced tools.

Cro- Magnon:

Cro- Magnons were like homo sapiens who lived in Europe 40,00 years ago, they took over Europe! They were the 1st to do Art, Jewelry, etc. They also ranked 1st in social class.
Where would we be today if there wasn't any Cro- Magnons? Well we might have gotten a little far in life but probably not much because they are the ones that ranked 1st in social class, and where would we be with out the arts!? I think Cro- Magnons were very important becuase they came up with art, jewelry, etc and they ranked 1st in social class. I think that when they took over Europe it was probably one of the most important parts of the Cro- Magnons becuase that is when more and more species started appearing all over.

Homo Sapiens:

Homo sapiens appeared 300,00 years ago and are still around because we are homo sapiens.
I think that the Homo sapiens are very important to this world even though they are only merely a small spec in the history. Humans are very intelligent and they are going to get more and more smarter as time goes on. They are very important to our furture.
